    Re: Why are you vegetarian?

I decided when i was 7 that i didnt like the way how people kill animals just for food. so i suppose in protest i dont eat meat. I'm only a teen so most people put my mum down about 'making me' but if she had it her way i would eat meat.

people always ask if i was on a desert island and it was a matter of eating a cow and living or dying of starvation. I say i would WANT to eat the meat to survive but the thought of eating it when it had just been alive with me...i dont think i would be able to.

    Re: Why are you vegetarian?

We got put onto it by ppl from our new church.

I was worried about cutting out most of my meat because i get low iron and was worried about getting dizzy but i havent had any problems. I love not feeling guilty after pigging out on the sausages and no oilyness to them.

And recently watching these Kosher cow killings etc has really turned me off meat too.

We still have the occasional meat maybe once a week, i couldnt look back at real sausages.

    Re: Why are you vegetarian?

Hi,  I have been a vegetarian for over 20 years.  I started out just not eating meat but still eating foods in the way I had when I did eat meat, I found it wasn't healthy.

For me if you become a vegetarian you really need to change the way you eat, not just omit meat from your diet.  If that makes sense?

Anyway the reason I became a vegetarian was ethical, first and foremost.  I just believe with every fibre of my being that it is wrong to kill and eat animals.  I am against hunting as well.  I don't wear leather.

I have never been what you might call an activist, but I don't back down from my point of view when someone challenges my beliefs on this.

My family?  Well they all eat meat sadly.

    Re: Why are you vegetarian?

I became a vegitarian before 10 yrs ago..because i saw a video showing how they kill animal. i am a person who treat any body that i liked to be treated.so........i saw how painfull that is..and i think it is not healthy to eat coz every animal dying painfully and because of that there homonse also will react badly when we consume.i am a person who thinks every body should live peacefully in this earth not only humans.animals also have a right to live in this earth. we can survive with out meat.and i really thankfull 4 vegy delights 4 making my meals so tasty without any meat.

    Re: Why are you vegetarian?

I should first qualify that I do eat fish occassionally mainly because for me personally I can catch and kill a fish to eat so therefore I am responsible for its death.I do not eat any red meat or chicken. For me it has a lot to do with responsibility. If I am not prepared to slaughter a cow should I eat it?I am also aware of the environmental impact of raising beef and the terrible conditions poultry live under. We keep our own free range chickens and I have no trouble enjoying their happy egg offerings ( although we are experiencing some stiff competition from a mob of crows lately!)I have not found the transition difficult althougth on a practical note it does seem to take me longer to make tasty and nutritious vege meals. My husband and daughter say they are so tasty that they don't miss meat at all so its worth it.On a spiritual note I feel that I was ready for the change.I feel 'lighter " inside and more "tuned into" nature.I've always loved animals but feel a special communication with them now. This may sound a little strange but I also find I'm more patient, less aggressive and more conscious of what I say and do.I'm not sure how these developments are related to being vege but its something I've noticed. Most spiritual traditions such as those found in India advocate vegetarianism so it must have a "cleansing" aspect.I am also enjoying shopping more and have found myself becomming naturally more health conscious such as cutting down on coffee, gluten and alcohol. I do take an iron suppliment as I am prone to anemia and I take a antioxidant suppliment which I always took when I ate meat anyway.I try to fit in moderate exercise but find myself time poor at times as most other people I know!

    Re: Why are you vegetarian?

I stopped eating meat in the early 90's, rarely ate seafood anyway, stopped eating red meat then chicken and couldn't imagine eating meat now. It was easy for me, I was never keen on the concept of eating animals outside of the requirement of survival, so when I stopped eating meat completely it felt very natural for me.

I enjoy the vegi delight range, the vegi delight fillets crumbed are just great and the sausages are yum also, particularly the curry version

    Enjoy.

    Re: Why are you vegetarian?

Purely ethical reasons.  I was a meat eater for years and have no trouble admitting that I like the taste of meat.  Giving it up was not difficult - there are plenty of meat alternatives and restaurants nowadays usually offer good vegie or vegan choices.

The environmental and health factors seem to be the major focus for vegetarian diets now. This is all well and good and it's another reason for the conversion of many.
