    Restaurants

Does anyone else thats vegetarian hate it when you go to a restaurant and they have NO or LIMITED vegetarian meals? do you usually have to ask "could i please have that without meat?" or "do you have any salad on its own?"?  I once went to a vegetarian chinese restaurant   but EVERYTHING was tofu  even the "vegetable" chow mein was tofu....was crazy!

Yep, I've come across that a LOT. I usually phone ahead these days if I'm a bit unsure about what food may be on offer.

My parents live in a country town, so if I visit and we go out to a restaurant I always phone ahead and ask them about the food and put in a request for a strict veg meal.

But I have to say that these days I would only initiate eating out if I was going to either:
    - a meat-free restaurant, or
    - a 'fancy' restaurant, with an experienced chef that is happy to tailor the meals to individual requests...

So really, I don't eat out often!!

I used to hate it, back when I was much younger but now I realise it is supply and demand.  I don't know where you live but here in Tassie you are lucky to get any vegetarian restaurants, there are some cafes that do main meals and some places that will accommodate you Hmm  if you phone ahead.  Although I admit to not actually being that fond of eating out these days, the food here is often over cooked and I have no idea where all the good chefs have gone.  Over-seas maybe!
